Brief History

A Short History of College.

Chitrotpala Women’s Degree College, Korua situated on the holy river Chitrotpala Just about 20 Kms to the south of Kendrapara town, is imparting Higher Education to women students in the locality. Originally, the College was established in the year 1981 in its intermediate form. The College came under the bifurcation rule of the Govt. and thus, Degree College started in the year 1991. The calm and quiet atmosphere and rural setting of the College sitation create the image of another shantiniketan. Getting the guidance, inspiration and affection ‘ of the teachers, the students assume domestic environment and by dint of hard labour, perseverance and punctuality, they proceed further to reach their destination. Presently, the College comes under the revenue village of Korua under the Garadpur Block in the District of Kendmpara. It is the second highest women’s Degree College in order of the district after Tulashi Women’s Degree College, Kendrapam. At first, the College was under Utkal University and at present it is under Rama Devi Women’s university, Bhubaneswar.

Great things have shanky beginning. Keeping in view the density of population of the locality and the problems faced by the socially and economically backward girl students in studying remote colleges, some intellectual persons took the historic decision and by taking oath laid the foundation stone of this educational temple. The dream of the founding members came to be true. Despite lots of ups and downs, the institution emerged vigorously. From 64 sanctioned seats to 128 and now 256 seats is being filled up in enrollment expressing its popularity and the various dimensions it is showing to the students. The College celebrated its Annual Function and SJ. Baijayanta Panda, Hon’ble M.P., Kendrapara was the Chief Guest and SJ. Bedprakash Agrawal, Hon’ble M.L.A., Patkura as the Guest of Honour. But the expectation to get a lad for its infrastructural development ended in vain. Natural calamities like super cyclone of 1999 and high flood in 2008 have broken the backbone of the College. It includes the damage of the College infrastructure and large number of the library books. Still the College as the sole familiar source of Higher Education has been able to bloom the smile of hopes and contentment on the lips of thousands of poverty stricken rural rustic girl students.

The location of the College is in between the villages of Srj. Bijaya Kumar Mohapatra and Srj. Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, the ex-cabinet Ministers of Odisha. However, the founding members were so “Swabhimanee” (self-esteemed) that they decided to keep this Educational institution at a safe distance from politics and thus, never sought any political patronage letting it in utter distress and wretched condition for more than two decades. The College celebrated its silver jubilee with great pomp. The well-wish and blessings of thousands of common men & women of the locality helped the institution to survive, progress and prosper gradually and steadily in its own way.
